Item description: * Important Imperial Russia / Russian cloisonne enamel pill or snuff box by Faberge workmaster Feodor Afanasiev / Fyodor Afanasiyev.
The box is 88 Imperial Russian silver standard and marked with the "88 I.L." assayer's mark in Cyrillic, as well as with workmaster's initials "FA" for Feodor Affanasiev both at inner base of the box plus at the inner rim of the lid.
The insides had been gold plated / gilted and nearly 90% of the original gold wash is intact with some superb original patina darkening at several points.
The box measures 56mm in diameter and is 25mm tall and has a weight of 71.3 grams. The cloisonne enamel is fantastically crafted fully covering each point of the box and the enamel is superbly intact with no restorations ever been done. A hairline 2-3mm wide surface chip can be observed under high loupe magnification at the body of the box just below the lower hinge of the lid, but this is impossible to see with naked eye and the base of the enamel at that place is intact. This very nice piece of antique Russian Works of Art was most likely crafted during the 1908-1917 period with rich floral design as well as hints of geometrical patterns and motifs typical for the Faberge Firm during that time. This particular box comes from a collection of Russian and other similar works of Art of a known Austrian collector.
LIFETIME GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC! A nearly identical by design pill box by the Faberge firm was sold at the June 12th Sotheby's Auction (Lot #433) for approximately $50,000 including Buyer's premium. Scarce antique Russian enamel pill box collector piece and one of the rare Faberge workmasters' boxes and silver Art objects.
