Item description: * See scan - perfect condition and comes with original case of issue. This is a scarce and very rare German Royal 1st Prize (1st Class) participant medal awarded during the 1st National EXPO / Exposition for smoking pipes, tobacco, cigars, cigarettes and alcohol liquor held in Munich, Germany during 1898. The medal has an extraordinary Art Nouveau floral design at obverse and scarce goddess and lion surrounded by wreaths at reverse. Everything is in a deep scuplture relief and is done by the highest mastership. The medal is solid sterlig silver with gold plating / gilt and has the original gold patina and lustre. It is a very thick and heavy piece with a diameter of 49mm and thickness of about 8mm. It appears to be made out of two concentric pieces both of them die struck / minted. The obverse text in German reads - I ALGEMEINE AUSSTELLG VON PFEIFEN - RAUCHREQUISITEN, TABAKEN, CIGARREN & CIGARETTEN NAHRUNGSMITTELN UND GETRANKEN. MUNCHEN 1898. Absolutely scarce tobacco pipes and cigars memorabilia collector piece and one of the rare Expo German medals.
